May 2024, we are celebrating the mental health month.
Every person has a responsibility and potential to guard against their mental wellness. Mental wellness is an active process that revolve around physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, vocational, financial, and environmental. People become aware of and make choices towards, a more successful existence.
When mental wellness is in its best state people enjoy mental health, which is a state that entail physical, mental and social well-being.
Mental illness is a health condition/s /state/s which entails changes in; emotion, thinking or behavior.
Mental wellness and mental health are grounded on principles of nutrition, exercise, relaxations and sleep.
Mental illness is experience by all people across age, disability, religion, ethnicity, social status, sexual orientation, cultures, nationality and gender.
However, much is augmented that every person has a responsibility and potential to experience mental wellness this is not always true for people with disability.
Every human being needs freedom, fun, belonging, power, and survival at to some extent people living with disability don’t enjoy this need in equal measures with the others who do not live with disability.
Their freedom and power are at times restricted by their significant/ those they work with that risk their exposure to mental distress and mental illness as much as they provide them with the needed support and care at home, school and workplace
People living with disability need their freedom and their boundaries respected to experience mental wellness.
They do not need sympathy instead during this month of May let’s all respect their diversity and allow them to be. T
They have same potential to navigate this world just like others.
Let’s all-purpose to take responsibility of our mental wellness and support that of others.
