May is Mental Health Awareness Month

On this third day of Mental Health Awareness month we are taking time as a Team to recognize the profound impact of group counseling and the far-reaching effect it has on our Participants.

πŸ‘‰ Group counseling helps us realize we are not alone.
Our Upili students may enter the initial session with the notion they alone have certain challenges or thoughts.
Group counseling fosters a sense of solidarity, reinforcing the idea of “we’re all in this together” while also normalizing shared experiences.

πŸ‘‰ Group counseling facilitates giving and receiving support.
Group members are encouraged to turn to each other for support, feedback and connection, instead of focusing on only receiving this from the trained counselor.

πŸ‘‰ Group counseling helps us find our β€œvoice.”
During group sessions individuals become aware of and clarify their unique feelings/needs and learn, through practice and watching others, how to express them.

πŸ‘‰ Group counseling creates a safety net.
Upili Participants experience more than simply bi-weekly, one hour counseling sessions.
The students carry the group’s support with them between sessions creating a psychological safety net for each other until Upili meets again.
